The gearbox was redesigned in 2001 from memory, if reverse is left and up then it's the later box that doesn't suffer fifth gear failures. If reverse is right and down then it's the earlier box that has been known to suffer. My Ducato was first registered in UK on 11.04.2003 so may have been with dealers for some time unless it was a customer
